Where does Community Design have effect?
Community Design has effect in all the territory of the European Union. It has a unitary character: it can only be applied for and granted for the whole European Union territory.
Where can an application for a Community Design be made?
Applications may be submitted directly to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) (https://euipo.europa.eu/ohimportal/es/) based in Alicante, in Avda. de Europa, 4, 03008 Alicante; Applications may also be submitted to the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (www.oepm.es) which is based in Madrid, Paseo de la Castellana, 75, 28046 Madrid. In these cases, the SPTO will forward the application to the EUIPO and will apply a fee for reception and transmission (link to design fees).

The application form can be downloaded from the EUIPO web site and can be presented directly to the EUIPO or through the SPTO, paying the transmission fee.

How long is a Community Design valid for?
A registered Community Design remains protected for a term of five years, renewable for periods of five years up to a maximum of 25 years, counted from the date of application.
