1. Payment of fees

To perform certain procedures, you simply need to pay the corresponding fee, for example annual patent fees. For other procedures, such as a trademark application, in addition to the payment of a fee, you need to submit hard copies of certain data or fill in a particular form electronically via the internet. Depending on the chosen filing method (electronic or hard copy), there are a number of payment methods available. The following table lists all the possible options.

Note 1: La Caixa is currently the financial institution that collaborates with the SPTO to collect fees.
Note 2: VISA, MasterCard.

To make the payment either in person or electronically, you need to go to the Electronic Office, and the “Payment of fees and public prices” section. Below is a description of each payment method:

  • Electronic payment procedure:

The various electronic payment methods can be selected via the link: Electronic payment and they are as follows:

    a) La Caixa Gateway (online banking system of the entity collaborating with the SPTO). To do this you need to have a current account with La Caixa and an “Open Line” contract.

    b) Tax Agency (AEAT) gateway. To do this you need to have a digital certificate or electronic DNI, the holder of which must be the same as the holder of the current account you wish to make the payment from. You can use a number of  banks that collaborate with the AEAT.

    c) Credit/debit card. The categories of Industrial property that can be paid for using a credit card are listed in the summary table at the top of this page.

  • In-person payment procedure:

First, download the corresponding payment document from the SPTO’s e-Office via the link: Generate in-person payment documents. Then make the payment at any La Caixa Branch.

    WARNING!

All fee payments are associated with a barcode that is unique to each fee. Therefore, you need to complete a payment form for every fee to be paid.

EXAMPLES: If you wish to apply for three trademarks, you need to generate a payment form for each trademark. If you wish to pay a number of fees associated with a single file you need to generate a payment form for every fee to be paid.

2. Payment of public prices

To request a service subject to public prices you need to send an email to the corresponding unit as, in order to pay public prices, the SPTO first needs to produce a payment document.

The SPTO will send an email to the interested party indicating the procedure to follow with a link, from where the payment document stating the corresponding amount can be downloaded. Then you can pay using one of the following payment methods:

  • In-person payment: at branches of La Caixa
  • Electronic payment: by credit/debit card
